Swiss Working Group Interventional Cardiology 

About us

The Working Group (initially called "PTCA and Fibrinolysis") was founded in 1982 by U. Sigwart upon request by the then president of the Swiss Cardiac Society, Dieter Burkhardt. The annual Winter Meeting was subsequently created in 1992 by JJ. Goy.

Today, the Swiss Working Group for Interventional Cardiology represents about 200 Interventional Cardiologists.

Winter Meeting

Every January we meet in a relaxed atmosphere to share and discuss the complicated coronary and structural interventions that we have faced throughout the previous year.

The goal is to learn together and share the valuable knowledge and experience present within our community for the benefit of our patients.

Interventional Cardiology Award

Every year the Working Group awards 7500.- CHF during the Winter Meeting.

The focus of this award are small Swiss studies, e.g. master degree or thesis projects that can be completed within one year timespan. International multi-center trials and studies already supported by companies are excluded. The award money is to be used for the winner's personal research activities, this can also include travel expenses to scientific meetings or congresses, training visists or postgraduate courses.

Submit a summary of your research project in the field of interventional cardiology (½ page). Selection of the three best projects is carried out by the board of the Working Group. The presentation of the nominated projects must be held during the Winter Meeting of the Swiss Working Group (5 min. oral presentation). A winner will be selected by the attending participants of the Winter Meeting.

The winner will be invited the following year to present the progress/results of the project to the Working Group.

Training

Post-certification competency Interventional Cardiology

Schwerpunkt/Formation approfondie Interventional Cardiology

In 2024, the assemblies of the Swiss Working Group Interventional Cardiology and the Swiss Society of Cardiology approved the training programme for the post-certification competency "Interventional Cardiology". The programme has been submitted for approval to the SIWF/ISFM.

The EAPCI Exam will be adopted as part of the interventional training programme. Swiss candidates will register via the Swiss Society of Cardiology for the EAPCI Exam and also receive the results via the Swiss Society of Cardiology. The process has been piloted and Swiss exam participation will be continued on a voluntary basis for the time being.

Radioprotection

Fähigkeitsausweis Strahlenschutz in der Kardiologie / pädiatrischen Kardiologie (SGK / SGPK)

Specialists in cardiology who use radiation in the medium and high-dose range themselves (e.g. in the cathlab) must obtain the certificate of competence in radiation protection.

How to become a Member?

Members of the SSC can apply for admission to the Working Group Interventional Cardiology.
Send your CV and a foto to ptca@swisscardio.ch and name 2 patrons that are member of the Working Group. Application deadline is four weeks before the next Business Meeting.

Admission will take place at the next Business Meeting and will require your presence. The Working Group Membership is free of charge.
